A Softness Obsession
Cashmere
The obsession began in 2008 with one skein of cashmere. The softness is unsurpassed. It is a fiber you can wear next to your skin with no itchiness and it comes from goats!!
We only recently started our cashmere herd in 2019 but we have been dreaming about them for 10 years. We fell in love with the goats and they fit perfectly into our forest homestead. These rugged creatures help clean up the understory of privet and siverthorn, 2 invasive plant species that thrive in Georgia.
Cashmere is the undercoat that goats grow during the colder months. All goats grow some undercoat but cashmere goats have been bred and selected for hundreds of years to grow a longer and denser undercoat. In our herd we continue the practice of breeding for improved cashmere. Our focus is on density, length and curvature while also growing a strong and meaty body underneath.
We do not sell cashmere fiber often as our herd is small, but sometimes we will make fiber available hand spinners.

Strawberry is the product of our original herd sire Harold and our sweet Tulip.
She has fine brown cashmere, blue eyes and a gentle personality. We look forward to seeing the beautiful babies she and another buck will make.
Birth Date: 02/14/2023
Rhubarb is a shy girl with a lot of warming up to do but her cashmere is outstanding - literally - it grows out past her guard hairs! this picture doesn’t do her justice as she is just growing her new cashmere coat. When she is in full cashmere coat, she looks like a sheep!
This timid soul has New Zealand cashmere in her line as well.
Meet Ferrer Fiber Rhubarb
Grandsire: NZ Cashmere Dixon
Meet STC Harold
Birth Date: 04/29/2020
This beautiful specimen was our first herd sire and produced many wonderful kids! He was with us for 5 years and we are so thankful he was our first buck. He brought disease resistance, an exceptional strong body that was easy to keep on his sold and strong feet. He will be missed.
Sadly Harold is no longer able to breed our does - he was hit too many times with meningeal worm and although he is still enjoying life, he cannot function as a buck. Harold is from long-time breeders and cashmere goat judges Wendy Pieh and Peter Goth of Springtide Farm, Bremen, Maine.
Harold brings blue eyes, a large, meaty body, excellent confirmation and strong feet to out herd. His kids often have all these qualities!
“Best of 2020 bucklings. Excellent conformation, personality, with his very own topknot.” - Wendy
2023 cashmere fiber diameter measured in microns: 13.49 - 3rd year fleece
2023 average fiber length of 2.17 inches
Much of our drive to learn things comes from a desire to be self sufficient - some of these goals are somewhat frivolous, like spinning and candle making but we love to explore how things are made and we will continue to explore so stay tuned for more farm adventures in to the world of making from scratch and DIY through our social media.
Fiber Goals -
